THE biggest retro arcade in South Yorkshire with its own bar is opening in Barnsley in a few weeks.
Retrodome will open in the former Unipart Automotive on Upper New Street, near Morrisons, on May 11 and will have a collection of more than 40 games including Space Invaders, Pac-Man and more.
The idea came from Phillip Thompson and his son Chris, of Underhill, Worsbrough Dale, who started collecting the arcade machines as a hobby. The pair then teamed up with Phillip’s other son Luke, who has worked in pubs for the last seven years to open the arcade.
“We decided it would be a great idea to come together and open up the biggest retro arcade in South Yorkshire,” said Luke, 26.
“At Retrodome we have a console room full of all the old classic consoles such as the SNES and Sega Mega Drive, a virtual reality room and a massive warehouse full off upright arcade machines.
“We are really looking forward to showing off our collection to the general public.”
There will also be a bar in the arcade and there will be a variety of beers, ciders and more on offer. There will also be snacks available.
Those wanting to access the Retrodome will have to pay an entrance fee.
