Four tonnes of food donated
MORE than four tonnes of food - equivalent to almost 10,000 meals - was donated to Barnsley Foodbank Partnership during a Tesco donation event.
The supermarket’s Christmas collection scheme saw Hoyland, Penistone and Stairfoot Tesco stores take part to donate ‘trolleys upon trolleys’ of food for emergency parcels.
The equivalent to 9,595 meals were donated by Barnsley residents.

FIREFIGHTERS helped an injured woman from a car which had overturned at the Birdwell end of Sheffield Road on Tuesday afternoon.
She was taken to Barnsley hospital suffering from neck and back injuries after she was freed from the Corsa, which had been in a collision with a Fiesta.
The female driver of the Fiesta was also taken to hospital, she was complaining of chest pains.

WHITE paper recycling sacks will be scrapped if council bosses give the go ahead next week.
The council now wants to do away with the controversial white sacks and instead collect all paper and cardboard together in the blue recycling bin.

Arrest made after two women stabbed
TWO women have reportedly been stabbed at a house in Cudworth, with a man arrested in connection with the incident.
Police were called to a property in Church Street at around 1am today (Sunday, December 12) and said a woman in her 20s, and another in her 40s, were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
They confirmed a 43-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

Business support promised by council
BARNSLEY Council will continue to support businesses been affected by the pandemic after the furlough scheme ended last Thursday.
Since the start of the pandemic, the council has committed more than £75m to providing financial support to more than 5,500 businesses.
This funding has helped with rent relief, businesses grants and personalised support on a case-by-case basis.

A RETIRED barber took his own life after suffocating his wife - who was experiencing declining mental health and hallucinations due to dementia - at the couple’s home, an inquest has concluded.

Suicide rates at ‘highest-ever’ figures
RATES of suicide in Barnsley are at their highest-ever recorded levels, revealed senior councillors - who believe there is ‘still a challenge’ to overcome in supporting people before they get to their lowest point.
