A BARNSLEY police officer who allegedly pursued an ‘inappropriate relationship’ with a woman in an incident he attended could be dismissed at a hearing next week.

PC Joseph Wilby will attend the misconduct hearing, held in Chapeltown, on Monday at 10am.

It’s been alleged that Wilby pursued an inappropriate relationship with a female complainant in a case he attended, did not make any disclosure to the force regarding the relationship and that he accessed police records with no reason.

At the hearing, the panel will also discuss a series of other allegations made against PC Wilby - including illegally sharing information into ongoing cases.

A police report states: “It is alleged that, following attendance to an incident in August 2021, the officer pursued an inappropriate relationship with the female complainant in the case.

“It is alleged that the officer failed to make any ‘notifiable association’ disclosure in relation to this female.( “On September 14, 2021, the officer is alleged to have accessed a South Yorkshire Police system and opened/viewed ‘person’ and ‘investigation’ records without a legitimate policing purpose, providing untrue reason codes for the searches.”
