Today marks exactly one month until Barnsley start their 2026/27 season at home to Wigan Athletic in the EFL Cup on August 8.
The Reds have been back in pre-season training for a fortnight under Daniel Stendel who is back at the club he led to promotion in 2019.
The German is thought to have been putting the squad through a rigorous pre-season schedule including double sessions on some days, while their usual day off on Wednesday has been spent doing off-site activities such as playing a ‘padel’ tournament.
They played their first friendly at eighth-tier Matlock Town on Saturday and now visit League Two York City this weekend.
The Reds are still in need of many additions to their squad, despite last week signing Australian winger Clayton Taylor, returning midfielder Cameron McGeehan plus young defenders Calum Hudson and Isaac Smith.
They are thought to be keen to add more strikers, with 20-year-old Leo Farrell their only current option, a goalkeeper and at least one defender as priorities. The Reds have been linked with right-back Tyrese Noslin who played in this summer’s World Cup for Curacao and is currently in contract at Dutch top flight club Telstar.
