JOHN Stones could move closer to his first international honour with England when they face Norway in the World Cup quarter-final.
The Barnsley man came off the bench during Monday’s last 16 win over hosts Mexico in the Azteca Stadium following a red card for Jarell Quansah early in the second half.
He played a key role in a heroic defensive effort to win 3-2 with ten men.
It was a 92nd England cap for ex-Red Stones which puts him 12th on the all-time list of men’s players for the Three Lions.
He started the opening game of the tournament and has since been on the bench, coming off it twice.
If he plays against Norway, he is likely to face former Manchester City team-mate Erling Haaland who is one of the world’s best strikers.
The winners of the quarter-final in Miami on Saturday will advance to the semi-final on Wednesday in Atlanta with the final in New Jersey on July 19.
Ex-Red Ivan Toney is also with the England squad but is yet to play in the World Cup.
