FILM and television students at Barnsley College University Centre have gained valuable industry experience after completing a live client project with The Light Cinema in Sheffield.
Working to a real creative brief, students were challenged to produce a range of promotional content to support the cinema’s marketing activities.
Their work included a feature advert, social media content, photography and promotional posters, allowing them to apply their skills in a professional setting.
The collaboration provided students with first-hand experience of working with a live client, helping them develop essential skills including communication, project management, responding to feedback and delivering creative solutions to a professional brief.
Student Lacey Evans said: “Working with the light has been the best experience I could have wished for at university! It has helped me to see what it is like working for a big company.
“Further to that, the portfolio materials I have captured for this project have helped me to land an amazing photography job at a company“.
Digital and creative industries teacher, Beth Giblin, added: “Projects such as this form an important part of the Higher Education Media curriculum, ensuring students graduate with the practical experience, confidence and knowledge needed to succeed in the creative industries.”
