BARNSLEY town centre is set to come alive this summer as the Big Weekend returns with an exciting programme of free entertainment for all ages.

Taking place over two action-packed days later this month, visitors can enjoy live performances and family-friendly experiences.

A highlight of the weekend is the return of the much-loved Brassed On! Festival on July 11.

Celebrating Barnsley’s rich tradition of brass band music, audiences can look forward to a fantastic line-up of performances from talented bands including one of the UK’s finest female brass bands, Brazen Brass, and the world-renowned Grimethorpe Colliery Band.

On July 12, the focus shifts to health, wellbeing and fun with What’s Your Move Day, an energetic celebration of sport and activity.

Visitors of all ages and abilities can get involved in a wide variety of activities, from hands-on sessions with RampUP, Barnsley FC Community Trust and Quest Taekwondo to a climbing wall, cycling and darts.

Matt O’Neill, executive director for place at Barnsley Council, said: “Barnsley’s Big Weekend is a fantastic celebration of everything that makes our town special.

“With live music, family activities and opportunities to get active, it’s a brilliant way to bring people together and showcase our vibrant town centre.
