BARNSLEY North MP Dan Jarvis is no longer the Defence Secretary following Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s cabinet reshuffle.

Dan was appointed as the Secretary of State for Defence on June 11 after fellow local MP John Healey stepped away from the role.

But in Burnham’s cabinet reshuffle yesterday he was replaced by MP Wes Streeting.

Dan said: “It’s been an immense honour to serve as Defence Secretary and once again be amongst those who give everything to defend our nation.

“At home and overseas, our Armed Forces serve with professionalism, courage, and selflessness.

“We owe them a huge debt of gratitude - and they will always have my absolute support.

“I wish my successor every success in this vital role.”
