HISTORIC Monk Bretton Priory’s 12th-century remains will come alive with battling knights, jolly jesters and all manner of medieval-themed merriment with thousands expected to attend what is proving an ever-popular event in Barnsley’s calendar.
This year’s Medieval Mayhem event promises to be the biggest and most action-packed yet, featuring re-enactments, musicians, hands-on craft demonstrations as well as a variety of food stalls.
The festival also offers interactive opportunities for learning and discovery, giving children and adults the chance to experience history in a fun and engaging environment.
Organised and led by Jolly Good Communities, the event is entirely volunteer-driven with a dedicated team working hard to bring history to life for all ages.
Last year’s festival welcomed over 5,000 visitors across the weekend, and organisers are expecting even more attendees this year.
“This event is truly a community effort,” said organiser Victoria Agnew.
“We couldn’t do it without the support of our incredible volunteers who help with everything from its set up to ensuring everyone has a fantastic time.
“It’s a labour of love and we’re thrilled to see it grow year after year.
“We’ve seen tremendous support from the local community and beyond, and this year’s event is shaping up to be the biggest yet.”
The event will take place on May 17 and May 18.
