FATHER Darren Percival said he didn’t even flinch as he raised £1,500 for his church’s restoration appeal by waxing his legs.
St John’s in Cudworth is facing structural issues that are particularly affecting the west window masonry, roof and plastering.
It’s estimated that the full restoration will cost £750,000 - including £400,000 alone to fix the window.
Last Friday evening, people paid as much as £50 to tear just one strip of wax off of Fr Percival’s legs.
He added: “I was gritting my teeth as Rhianne Ledger of Rhilax and Rhivive got to work with the waxing but the painful experience was worth it, raising £1,500 towards the £400,000 urgently needed to restore the church’s west window.
“Some of the audience offered to pay £50 each to tear strips off.
“Replacing the west window is the beginning of work needed on the church’s fabric, which is expected to cost a total of £750,000.”
