A BARNSLEY primary school has been praised by Ofsted following its latest inspection.

Wellgate Primary School, on George Street in Mapplewell, was previously rated as ‘good’ by Ofsted.

In their most recent inspection the school ‘improved significantly in all areas’ - though as it was ungraded no new rating has been given.

A report states: “All staff in this school have very high expectations of pupils.

“Pupils respond to these and achieve highly.

“Pupils are rightly proud of the work they produce.

“The work of the school to develop pupils’ character is remarkable.

“Pupils live by the ‘Wellgate Way’ which are a set of values teaching kindness and respect.
