NEW speed checking devices have been installed on a stretch of road in Darfield following concerns from residents.

Speed indicator devices (SIDs) promote safe driving behaviour, increase awareness of speed limits, and enhance road safety for all road users, according to the council.

A SID gives a visual alert to road users of the speed limit in force on that road with the primary objective being to reduce speeding.

One of those devices has now been placed on the A635 Doncaster Road, much to the delight of Coun Kevin Osborne.

He told the Chronicle: “Following initial requests from residents who live on and near the A635 Doncaster Road in Darfield I asked Barnsley Council to make initial checks on speeding vehicles on this stretch of road.

“The installation of the two SIDs will both act as a visual reminder to drivers of their speed but also will collect valuable data for use in any future potential road safety schemes in the area.”
