A FORGOTTEN football cup which was uncovered after spending more than a decade gathering dust will now take pride of place in Barnsley Town Hall on what is its 100th anniversary.
Known as the Royston Challenge Cup, it was last competed for in 1985 and belonged to the Barnsley Football Association.
Local man Mick Birkinshaw, whose possession it was last in, said: “Royston Social won it last and I traced it back to the FA before taking it on, but it’s been in the wardrobe for years.
“It’s nice to get it back out on its 100th anniversary - it’s a really ornate cup and looks fantastic in the Mayor’s Parlour, where it’ll stay.”
