A MAN who stole an electric toothbrush from the Wilkinsons Store at the Alhambra Centre has appeared in court.

Richard Barry Lowe, 45, of Bruce Avenue, Worsbrough Common, was seen taking an Oral B toothbrush and was stopped by security.

Barnsley Magistrates' Court was told the brush, valued at £50, was recovered. Lowe was fined £10 and ordered to pay a total of £70 in costs.

A HOMELESS man got so fed up of living on the streets he stole jars of coffee then turned himself in at Barnsley Police Station so he could be sent to prison. 

Karl Ian Bennett took the three jars from the One Stop Shop in Sackville Street. He sold them to buy drugs and then turned himself in at the station where he told officers: "I've had enough." 

At Barnsley Magistrates' Court Bennett's solicitor Gus Kennedy said his client had a long history of drugs misuse and was presently living in a tent.

Mr Kennedy added: "He accepts a custodial sentence is coming and that is what he wants." 

Bennett, 36, of no fixed address, was jailed for 14 days and ordered to pay £20.24 compensation to One Stop for the coffee he took.

A TEENAGER has appeared in court charged with burglary at a Barnsley school.

Barnsley Magistrates' Court was told the 17-year-old who cannot be named for legal reasons, had stolen approximately £1,950 after breaking into Forest Academy on Thornton Road, Kendray.

He pleaded guilty to the charge and was bailed for the preparation of a pre-sentence report. He is due back in court on August 29.

TWO Barnsley men have been remanded into custody to appear at Crown Court next month.

Morgan Andrew Heeley of Margaret Road, Darfield and William Martin Quinn of Denby Road, New Lodge appeared at Barnsley Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

Heeley, 18, and Quinn, 20, were each charged with a burglary at Thorne Close, In New Lodge on Sunday.

Heeley was also charged with an aggravated burglary at a house in Pontefract Road on the same day and Quinn charged with burglary with violence.

Quinn was also charged with driving without insurance. Neither man entered a plea. They will next appear at Sheffield Crown Court on September 6.
