A GROUP of Barnsley College students is hoping to swap its way to New York.
The ‘E-media’ students need to raise £7,000 to fund the educational trip and have set up a swap shop.
They started with a Rolling Stones’ guitar plectrum and have already managed to do several swaps and now have a signed Barnsley football shirt. The idea is that whoever wants the shirt swaps it for something they do not want but is better than the shirt.
Eventually the students hope to do enough trades to get something worth £7,000. Ania Foot, 17, of Francus Royd, Carlton, is one of them. She said: “In our dreams we'll get something worth £7,000 but we are realistic, we’re just trying to make enough so all the students can afford to go on the trip to New York.
“We had heard of a fellow in America who swapped his way from a paper-clip to a new house and thought it was a really cool idea. A lot of people had not heard of it before so it's getting a bit of attention.”
Tutor Jo Kyte said the final swap will be sold on internet auction site E-bay and will hopefully raise a lot of cash.
