A WOMBWELL schoolgirl was thrilled when she got to meet her favourite Barnsley player and he gave her signed gifts.

Rebecca Hewitt, 11, of Newsome Avenue, was taken to meet Nick Colgan, Barnsley’s goalkeeper, and he gave her a signed shirt and a pair of keeper’s gloves.

The High View Primary pupil was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease last December and has been very ill. Mum Jane Hewitt said: “She’s only just getting back into school but they have got it under control at the moment.

“She had no idea she was going to meet Nick. He’s her favourite player so she was so surprised. They had a little chat and it was really nice.”

The meeting took place at Barnsley’s last home game against Leicester.
