BARNSLEY Hospital's chief executive has quit to take control of the Sheffield Primary Care Trust.
It is not know when Jan Sobieraj will start his new job but hospital chairman Gordon Firth says it will be ‘sooner rather than later’.
The hospital, which is again heading for a multi-million pound deficit, will appoint a temporary boss while the search is on for a new chief executive.
It could take several months before the board can appoint one.
News of Mr Sobieraj’s departure has been filtering down the hospital ranks since Wednesday.
