SUSAN Hill has made a difference to countless lives through her outstanding dedication and service to her community.

For almost 30 years, Susan has been the heart and soul of the Rainbow Community Centre in Thurnscoe.

Through her tireless commitment, she has kept the centre running as a safe, welcoming and supportive place for people of all ages.

Whether it’s organising activities for children, hosting groups for older residents, or ensuring vulnerable families have somewhere to turn, Susan has given her time, energy, and compassion without ever asking for recognition.

It was this selfless service that led Dearne councillor Wendy Cain to nominate Susan for a Proud of Barnsley award and our judges choosing her as a finalist in the Exceptional Achievement category.

“Her work has not only maintained the centre as a physical space but has nurtured it into a true hub of community spirit - generations of local families have benefitted from the opportunities, friendships and support that Susan has made possible,” said Coun Cain.

“In times when many community spaces have closed, Susan’s determination has ensured that the Rainbow Community Centre continues to shine as a beacon of hope and togetherness in Thurnscoe.

“She embodies the very best of community spirit in Barnsley, always putting others first and proving the power of dedication and kindness.
