LACEWOOD Primary’s enrichment activities have shown the school’s willingness to go above and beyond for its pupils.

One shining example of this is the school’s involvement in environmental projects - like its collaboration with the initiative ‘Kids Plant Trees’ to transform the school grounds into a place where nature and education come together.

As a result of this the school’s pond has become both an outdoor classroom and a reflective space.

This gives the children the opportunity to learn about wildlife, sustainability, and the environment while also promoting wellbeing and mindfulness.

This work has led Lacewood, in Bolton-upon-Dearne, to bag a Proud of Barnsley award nomination.

Darryl Hand, community development officer, said: “Lacewood Primary is more than just a school.

“It is a caring, inclusive community that puts children and families at the heart of everything it does.

“Its dedication to education, environmental sustainability, wellbeing, and supporting those in need makes it a truly deserving recipient of a Proud of Barnsley award.”

The support offered by the school to families is of an exceptional standard demonstrating their recognition that children thrive when their needs are met.

The school took it upon themselves to source and hand out hygiene packs during the cost of living crisis.

This was a glowing example of practical support delivered with dignity and compassion in a time where it was needed most.

A free breakfast club also runs each morning, which gives pupils access to a nutritious breakfast.

This ensures that no child has to start their school day hungry.

When asked about receiving the nomination, headteacher Katie Akeroyd, added: “Whilst awards are wonderful - our greatest reward is seeing children arrive at school happy, leave each day believing in themselves and watching families feel part of a caring and supportive community.
