LEGENDARY Barnsley barber Tony Batty says he’s been blown away by the support of locals after they helped donate around 2,000 Easter eggs to youngsters across the region.

Tony, whose shop is on Racecommon Road, has been supporting locals for a number of years.

He’d only just finished his Christmas appeal which saw thousands of toys donated to young children across the town, but with the support of a number of volunteers he’s managed to hand over thousands of eggs to local hospitals and Base 71.

And he admits he’s been blown away by the support.

He told the Chronicle: “It’s been brilliant - we’ve managed to get about 2,000 eggs.

“I took around 600 to Barnsley Hospital on Monday and we’ve got some going to the hospice, Weston Park and Base 71.

“Barnsley Barbell gave us a massive donation of around 700 Easter eggs which was great.

“We’ve done really well.

“It’s been above and beyond what we expected, especially because the price of the eggs has sky-rocketed.

“But Barnsley have really pulled their socks up to help out.”

Barnsley Hospital Charity’s Jane Mills added: “This year’s donation of 600 Easter eggs is a record number.

“That generosity does not go unnoticed.

“You have truly made our hearts melt.”
