A 60-YEAR-OLD model aircraft club may be left homeless if plans to build another wind farm near Crow Edge get the go-ahead.
A 350-metre turbulent wind tunnel created by one of the proposed Blackstone Edge turbines would make it impossible for the 150 members of the Huddersfield and District Model Aircraft Club to fly planes there, said club secretary and trustee John Torr.
“This could cost us the club. We’re not Luddites - we want to work together with E.ON, but we’ve been a club for over 50 years and we want to stay a club,” he said.
Members, including Penistone and Barnsley residents, fly more than 750 models at up to 200mph over fields off Brown’s Edge Road - downwind of the site where energy company E.ON plans to build three 101-metre turbines.
