TRIBUTES have been paid to a Barnsley RUFC player who has died.
Ashley Salkeld, 25, formerly of Bank End Close, Bolton-on-Dearne, was a popular member of the squad, but had not played this season due to a shoulder injury.
A statement on the club website said: “All at Barnsley RUFC are saddened to hear of the passing of Ashley Salkeld this weekend. Ashley was an immensely popular member of the squad and a friend to many of the team. He came through the junior section to become one of the most prolific attackers to wear the Barnsley first team shirt. Our thoughts are with his brother Richard and all his loved ones at this difficult time. He will be sorely missed.”
