A HOYLAND charity was overwhelmed by the response it received to an appeal to help flood victims across South Yorkshire.

The Salvation Army, Hoyland Common, asked for food donations to take with them to help their divisions in Catcliffe and Doncaster.

Envoy Barbara Sabin said the reply had been magnificent.

She said: “I rang John Marren at Company Shop in Tankersley and he said ‘just tell me what you want’.”

The business, which supplies staff shops for food manufacturers, gave cases of tea, soup, beans, pork pies, peas, yoghurts and biscuits to the charity.

And members of the Hoyland division were happy to dish up dinner in the mobile canteens set up in the worst hit areas.
