DEVELOPERS will be charged £99 by the council for every home they build to cover the costs of supplying new bins.
The move was agreed by senior councillors on Wednesday to relieve the strain on the council coffers in trying to meet future demand for new bins as the borough experiences surges of new housing.
Coun Roy Miller told cabinet members the housing stock is increasing on average by 800 new homes a year and this rate of growth puts added pressure on services to soak up additional demand for new bins.
He said other authorities had already brought in a similar policy and neighbouring South Yorkshire councils would be looking to do the same.
The direct charge of £99 per property, applicable to all future housing developers, will cover the costs to the council for supplying and delivering rubbish and recycling bins to new homes.
