A PROPERTY developer got a job he never bargained for when gale-force winds blew down the front of his house and crushed his car.

Stephen Pearce, 35, thought someone had smashed into the front of the old post office in Blacker Hill when he was awoken by a loud crash at 5am on Sunday.

He was astonished to find large part of the gable wall and an upstairs window had fallen from the property on Wentworth Road.

He said: "There was an enormous bang that obviously woke us up. When I looked out of the side window I could see an ambulance and just one piece of rubble.

"My first thought was that someone had driven into the front of the house and that they were injured.

But when I got outside the ambulance had gone and a neighbour said 'have you seen your house is falling down'.

"It fell straight forward onto where the car was parked and flattened it. The roof was on the seats and they had to take the rubble off before they could tow it away."

Stephen and his pregnant wife Leanne were evacuated from their home as fire-fighters made it safe and the gas supply was turned off.
