A YOUNG chef beat off competition from some of the top restaurants in Sheffield to win a cooking contest.
George Lyon, 16, is a first-year apprentice at town centre restaurant Pinocchio's and also studies at Castle college in Sheffield.
The college last week organised a 'cook off' between its students and George and his head chef Stephen Fitzgerald won the day. Each apprentice and their mentor were given the same raw ingredients and told to come up with a three course menu.
Ingredients included a chicken, a plaice, carrots, potatoes and celery.
George said: "I was overjoyed, we did not expect to win because they are some of the best restaurants in Sheffield."
