ALAN Blow and his rhubarb have been together now for 70 years.
When he moves house the rhubarb goes with him.
It has travelled about 750 miles from Cortonwood where he grew up, to Symington and to Troon in Scotland, then to Poole on the south coast.
Finally 18 months ago, he dug it up again and moved to Barnsley. Since then he's even moved it across to the other side of his garden where the soil is better.
Alan, 75, of Corporation Street: "I've known this rhubarb all my life. It was the first thing I tripped over when I was learning to walk as a child. It has served me well, so why should I have to try to find another rhubarb just because I moved house?"
Alan and scores of other readers contacted the Chronicle after seeing last week's article about giant slugs eating Joszef Untisz's vegetables. He says sprinkling garlic granules around a plant is the best way to protect it.
