A GIANT burning effigy of a fat boy eating burgers will be the centre piece for the mayor's parade and summer gala.
'Bye Bye Burger Boy' will be set alight during the finale of the Heart of Barnsley celebration in Locke Park to symbolise the 'shedding of unhealthy elements of our lifestyles.'
The 40ft high sculpture, featuring burgers, other unhealthy foods and cigarettes, was chosen by NHS Barnsley and the council to promote healthy living. But critics condemned the design, claiming it will humiliate overweight children in the town.
Slimming World co-ordinator Christine Melhuish, who runs weight-loss groups for 11-15-year-olds, said the effigy was a disgrace.
