MEET your Faces of Barnsley 2010.
Abigail Herbert and Declan Connelly beat tough competition to be crowned winners at a glamorous awards ceremony at The Civic on Monday night.
Abigail, who lives off Cemetery Road, Hemingfield, was entered into the competition as a joke but she wowed the judging panel with her quirky style and sense of fun. She said: “People can see the real side of me, I’m not all about having long, floaty hair and being gorgeous. I like to wear things that are different and unique.â€
The 16-year-old is taught at home and is working towards GCSEs including dance and drama.
Declan’s mum entered him into the competition and he was shocked when he found how many people must have been voting for him. The 16-year-old, of Laithes Lane, Athersley South, impressed the judges with his ‘Barnsley lad’ persona and cheeky looks. The Edward Sheerien pupil is studying GCSEs including performing arts and plays various instruments.
He hopes to sign up for the marines in September. But before that he is looking forward to having a go at modelling.
