This 15-year-old has risen through the ranks of chess and has sights on her next competition.
Francesca Fozard of Silkstone started playing chess about six years ago. She said: "My school noticed I had a natural flair for it. I was pleased when I was then approached to join other clubs."
Francesca joined Leeds junior chess club and then Barnsley Chess Club - where she quickly progressed to playing in adult competitions. She went on to be named top player in Yorkshire, winning an under 14s national all girls' competition and winning a major section in the York Junior Congress.
Francesca said: "The competitions are tough but I am grateful to have got where I am. I am really pleased that I can go around the country, meeting people with the same interest."
The first Barnsley Junior Chess club is being set up. Sessions will be held on Mondays from May 9 at Worsbrough Common Primary School. Contact Brian Holdsworth on 200794 for more information.
