A POLICE sweep of a Manvers call centre car park found many vehicles left unlocked and at risk of theft.

A spot check of 1,000 vehicles found 142 had been left with doors unlocked, windows open and items of property on view.

“What people should realise here is that although the company has gone to great lengths with CCTV, fencing and car park barriers, a thief will easily spot a bargain if it is readily available and will steal if it’s made easy for them,” said PC Jack Regan of Rotherham District Crime Reduction Team.

Each car owner will receive an advice letter and the company has agreed to display the results of the check on the notice board.

“The exercise will be repeated later this year and the company has agreed to put any relevant safety message on their worktop computers so that when they’re are switched on the user immediately receives the message.”
