Bank raiders who made off with a 'substantial' amount of money had weakened a fence to prepare an escape route, police believe.
The getaway vehicle was driven from the rear of the bank across Cudworth Welfare Park.
A force statement issued on Wednesday said: "It is believed the fencing may have been previously weakened to allow the vehicle to drive straight to a field adjacent to the Rose Tree Estate where it was burnt out."
The HSBC in Cudworth was targeted by armed raiders on Tuesday lunchtime.
Officers want anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in Cudworth Welfare Park the day before the attack, or saw any suspicious activity in and around the bank including the rear of the building, in the days leading up to it to contact them.
DCI Sean Middleton said: “It is believed the offenders escaped in a Silver Wira Lux Proton vehicle which was later found burnt out in a field adjacent to the Rose Tree Estate.
“This was a well-planned attack which would have taken a lot of preparation. Luckily, no firearms were seen, and no-one was physically injured, however, all staff were left shaken and distressed as a result of the robbery."
A team of detectives is investigating and forensic examinations at the bank have been done.
Witnesses should contact police on 0114 2202020, or Crimestoppers 0800 555111.
