Barnsley loanee Vimal Yoganathan helped Oldham Athletic to the National League play-off final at Wembley with a win on Tuesday night.

The 19-year-old midfielder was one of the star players in the Latics’ 3-0 semi-final win at York City, having also impressed in the 4-0 quarter-final victory over Halifax Town last week.

After assisting the opener by winning a tackle on the edge of the York box, Yoganathan fired in the second goal just after half-time.

Oldham will now face the winners of Wednesday’s other semi-final between Forest Green Rovers and Southend United, at Wembley on Sunday June 1.

Yoganathan, who has played 16 games for Oldham after joining in January, will then be hoping for a call-up for the Wales youth set-up this summer.

Meanwhile, Kacper Łopatą missed Ross County’s 1-1 draw at home to Motherwell in their final game of the SPL season on Sunday which meant they finished second-bottom.

They will now play Championship play-offs winners Livingston over two legs to decide who plays in the top flight next season. Lopata is thought to have picked up an injury in the previous match.
