A POPULAR breakfast club for veterans and members of the Armed Forces community held its first meeting at the Wombwell Salvation Army Citadel on Saturday.

The club was first formed in 2024 and recently celebrated its first anniversary, with meetings usually taking place on the first Saturday of the month at the Prince of Wales pub on Wombwell High Street.

Having become established, the Wombwell Armed Forces Breakfast Club is now looking to host additional meetings at the Salvation Army on Park Street, providing a different and inclusive venue for veterans with the hope of encouraging more members to join.

Event organiser and veteran Eddie Harper said: “We are really pleased to have held our first meeting of the Wombwell Armed Forces Breakfast Club at the Salvation Army, which builds on the fantastic success we have had during the club’s first year operating at the Prince of Wales.

“The venue provides a different kind of space for veterans to come along and socialise with the wider armed forces community.

“I’d like to say a massive thank you to Jayne Trent and the team at the Salvation Army for making us so welcome and to all who came along to enjoy the event.”

Wombwell councillors James Higginbottom, Brenda Eastwood and Robert Frost added: “It’s great to see the Wombwell Armed Forces Breakfast Club going from strength to strength.

“The club provides an invaluable service to local veterans; giving them a safe space to come together, have a good chat and enjoy a brew and a hot sandwich.
