EIGHT-YEAR-OLD Jett Edwards is at his happiest when he is raising money for charity.

Alongside his other interests of being eco friendly and ‘saving the planet’, his main passion is helping people less fortunate than himself.

His mum Claire said: “He is a child that would give his last penny to you if you said you needed it. He has done runs for cancer research in the past few years.

“At his old school last year there was talk about how the school would need to raise money for new books as they were short on funds. Jett straight away came home and counted his piggy bank which he had been saving all his life and he had just over £50 in it which he offered to donate to the school’s books fund without a single doubt in his mind.”

And a chance viewing of a YouTube video about a child doing a lemonade stand on their driveway has added a whole new fizz to Jett’s fundraising efforts.

“He was instantly obsessed with the idea and of using this as a way of making money for charity. He thought long and hard about the charity he wanted to donate to and decided on the homeless,’” said Claire.

“This was all he could talk about from then on, watching videos about lemonade stands, drawing ideas of what he wanted his own to look like, and asking to watch documentaries regarding the homeless to get a better understanding about the sad situation people are in and possibly get ideas of how he can help these people.”

Jett also designed a poster to post through letter boxes near his Stairfoot home and put on lamp posts to spread the word about his driveway sale. He also enlisted Claire’s help to bake with him so there would be cake on sale too.

After trialling making lemonade from scratch, baking cakes and brownies, Jett turned to dad Riley for help to build the lemonade stand.

“Jett would tell his teachers all about his lemonade stand and how eager he is to raise money for the homeless. They offered for him to bring his lemonade stand to the summer fayre even though they don’t normally allow people to do a stand unless they are raising money for the school but due to his constant enthusiasm they wanted to encourage this.”

The Hunningley Primary Academy pupil did the stand after school and the school was so impressed by Jett’s efforts that the principal asked him to provide lemonade for local MPs who were attending school two days later.

He also served his lemonade at the school’s summer fayre and with a few personal donations from the MPs and a family member he has now raised £600 in total with a goal of raising £1,000 by the end of 2025.

“He really is one in a million by the way he thinks and cares for our community and is already thinking about what he can do next. He is a gem and we and his school are very proud of him.

“He really is a special young man. We are so so proud of who he is turning into and how he sees the world and what he wants to do to help it.”
