PREPARATIONS UNDERWAY FOR SHORT TRIP TO HIGH-FLYING BRADFORD
Barnsley are approaching the end of their two-week break from games, ahead of their short trip to Bradford City on Saturday.
The Reds ended a four-game losing run in all competitions with a 2-2 draw at Wycombe on October 4 but had led 2-0 on 88 minutes. Although they actually moved up a place to eighth in League One despite not playing this week, on alphabetical order ahead of Bolton Wanderers who lost 3-0 at Burton Albion, the gap to sixth doubled to four points thanks to Stockport County’s defeat of Blackpool. The Reds have at least one game in hand on most teams around them.
Bradford are second, joint top-scorers in the division and have won every home match this season going into their EFL Trophy game with Everton under 21s on Tuesday evening.
REDS IN INTERNATIONAL ACTION ON TUESDAY EVENING
Several Barnsley players could be action for their countries on Tuesday evening.
Jon Russell is part of the Jamaica squad due to host Bermuda in a World Cup qualifier. They lost 2-0 at Curacao on Friday, with Russell starting and having a shot cleared off the line at 1-0. That saw them saw fall off top spot in their group.
Jono Bland and Wales under 21s are in Austria for a European Championship qualifier. He was taken off at half-time in a 7-0 loss at home to Belgium on Friday.
Patrick Kelly started for Northern Ireland under 21s as they beat Malta 2-0 on Thursday. They host Germany on Tuesday.
U21S BEATEN AT BLADES
Barnsley under 21s lost 5-2 at Sheffield United on Tuesday.
The Blades are top and unbeaten while Barnsley have not won in seven since the opening day of the season, conceding 20 goals.
The hosts took the lead early on then Luke Alker levelled after the Blades goalkeeper was forced into a mistake by Voldi Mbaya.
United scored again amid calls of offside then added a penalty early in the second half and scored another two. Charlie Price pulled one back after good work by Aston Ellard.
The under 21s are now due to visit Fleetwood Town next Tuesday.
Barnsley under 18s did not play this week and are set to visit Hull City on Saturday, looking for a sixth straight win.
FARRELL NETS ON RETURN TO GUISELEY
Barnsley striker Leo Farrell scored on his return to loan club Guiseley on Saturday.
The 19-year-old netted a consolation strike a 4-1 defeat to Ilkeston in the Northern Premier League.
He joined last Friday, having netted seven goals in 15 games with Guiseley last season.
Goalkeeper Jackson Smith was loaned out to National League Rochdale for seven days and made his debut in their 2-1 home loss against York City in the FA Cup on Saturday. York have since been drawn against Barnsley in the first round.
