LOCALS will put their muscles to the test next month when they attempt to pull a nine-tonne truck from Barnsley to Dodworth to raise vital funds for veterans.

Organised by the Travellers Inn in Dodworth, a team of local residents and veterans will start at the Barnsley war memorial and attempt the gruelling two-and-a-half mile pull to the Dodworth memorial on Sunday, November 16.

All proceeds will be split between the Royal British Legion and Help 4 Homeless Veterans, based in the town.

Lauren Houseman, from the pub, told the Chronicle the group wanted to do something unique and they’re hoping to raise at least £2,000.

She said: “One of the lads at the pub said they wanted to do something for charity.

“It’s a community thing and we’ll have some of the rugby team, some will be pub locals and others will be veterans.

“We want to raise at least £2,000.”

Dodworth Brass Band will be playing to the group as they set off from the town hall at 9am, and Lauren is hoping residents will also turn up on the day.

She added: “We want as many people as possible to come and watch the truck as they set off.

“Or some people to come and show their support as it’s finishing.

“We’re going to have buckets and stands for the charities so hopefully we can raise a lot of money.”
