GEORGIE Gent has not been involved in recent Barnsley squads because he hasn’t met the standards Conor Hourihane expects, in terms of time keeping and ‘application’, but the head coach says the ‘door is not closed’ on the left-back.

Gent, 22, has played just four times this season after a serious injury last year, with the last being at Huddersfield on February 21.

Hourihane said: “Georgie has played a couple of 21 games. I think I've seen a little bit of a clamour and people need to understand the context around things behind closed doors that people don't see.

“And there's a certain application, there's a certain standard that you need to meet every single day and you need to train properly, you need to turn up on time, you need to apply yourself properly to get in the squad, to get in the team. And for me, Georgie, over his last few weeks, hasn't met that.

“He's been told, other people have been told along the course of the season, it doesn't mean that door's closed on Georgie at all, but he needs to meet the standard and professionalism that I expect from every single player.”
