BARNSLEY Football Club legend Neil Redfearn said he ‘loved’ a mural depicting him celebrating reaching the Premier League and the teenage organiser says it was a ‘dream come true’ to have one of his heroes visit the site.

The mural of Barnsley legends Neil Redfearn and Clint Marcelle celebrating after reaching the Premier League has been painted on a wall on the Bala Street newsagents.

The striking image, painted by artist Paul Staveley, has been praised by everyone attending on matchdays including former Reds captain Redfearn.

Ethan Hadfield, 14, was the driving force behind the scheme which saw thousands of pounds raised and on Wednesday he said he was over the moon that Redfearn could see the mural.

He told the Chronicle: “Barnsley FC is a huge part of my life and my community.

“Raising money for the mural has been amazing because it shows how passionate the fans are and how proud we are of our club and town.

“To see it in all its glory is amazing and so inspiring and to have ‘Captain Marvel’ Reds legend Neil Redfearn turn up to have photos and talk about is a dream come true.

“He loved it and was just as proud as us.
