Sprightly Catherine Scoffin still lives in her own house and does most her own cooking and cleaning, even after turning 100.

 

Catherine also goes on to the bus into Barnsley a couple of times a month and does a bit of gardening, with a bit of help, putting her long life down to her Christian faith.

 

"It's a commitment to faith, and to the belief and values of church," she said.

 

Catherine, who lives in Royston, has been involved with Grimethorpe Pentecostal Church since its inception.

She celebrate her big day yesterday with a gathering of family and friends at Manor Court community centre in Royston.

 

She was also the subject of a 'This is Your Life' style tribute from various ministers at Grimethorpe Pentecostal Church after the morning service today.

One of seven siblings, Catherine was born in Nova Scotia in Canada, but her family returned to England in 1913 when she was just six weeks old.

She has a daughter Rachel and son David and three grandchildren.
