Footballer Bobby Hassell has sent a few teams packing in his time – but on Sunday the phrase had a whole new meaning as the Reds star bagged people’s shopping at Tesco.
The Barnsley defender and his team of volunteers raised £741.96 for King’s Children’s Home, an orphanage he supports in Kenya.
Hassell, 32, has been collecting second-hand clothes during the last month and the funds will go towards shipping them to Africa later this year.
He said: “I must give a big thank you to the people of Barnsley. The response has been amazing.
“We’ve got so many clothes and they’ll make a big difference for the children.”
