The raising of the compulsory education age will not stop young people from working if they want to, a college has said.
Dearne Valley College is teaming up with two more in Rotherham to get the message across that the extra time students have to spend in education does not necessarily have to be at school.
From now on all young people in England must continue in either education or training until the end of the academic year they turn 17 in. It will be extended to 18 by 2015. This affects all students in currently in years 11 and below.
Apart from carrying on in full-time education, there are also the options of an apprenticeship or part-time education if they are employed, self-employed or volunteering for 20 or more hours a week.
Dearne Valley College will publish 15 facts on colourful billboards and phone booths to try to ensure that everyone is fully aware of their options.
