Former Manchester United striker John Cofie has joined Barnsley on a one-year deal, with the option for a second year.

The 20-year-old Ghana-born England under 17 international, who has scored six goals in 36 games on loan at Royal Antwerp, Sheffield United and Notts County, left Old Trafford this summer and joined the Reds on Friday.

Manager David Flitcroft told the club website: "I've seen him when he was at Burnley as a kid. He's a player of immense potential and immense talent.

"I don't think he'll be ready for the start of the season. There's bags of potential there."
