Barnsley FC goalkeeper Luke Steele is protecting more than the net these days - he's helping save animal lives too.

Luke opened a new 24-hour service at the Wilthorpe Road surgery of Vets4Pets in Barnsley, which has created ten new jobs.

The expansion means the surgery will be able to monitor critical patients on site at all times, see late appointments to suit clients who work long hours and examine urgent cases immediately at the clinic at any time of night or day.

Vet Caroline Richards said: "It's a unique idea in Barnsley. We've always wanted to provide our own night service and so took the huge step of employing a night team so we have a fully qualified veterinary surgeon and veterinary nurse on site at all times. We hope our clients will see the benefit in having this sort of capability."

The expansion sees the new jobs created for skilled positions such as emergency vets and nurses.

In the near future, the practice will also accept out of hours work from vets in Wakefield and the local area.
