AN OBJECTOR to the Cudworth and West Green bypass was so upset he couldn’t give his closing statement as the public inquiry concluded this week.

The council maintained its stance that it won’t give farmer Chris Rawlinson an access from the new road to his Bloemfonatin Street premises enabling him to build up his classic car business.

The council bought some of his farming land with a compuslory purcahse order.

It has changed the alignment of the by-pass and agreed to move a proposed roundabout 60 yards northwards so it wouldn’t be on the rest of the farmer's land.

The council's barrister Graham Machin added officers had investigated an access option but it was unsuitable on economical, environmental and technical grounds and said Mr Rawlinson’s access from Bloemfontain Street would be adequate.

However, they will look at improving manoeuvrability on the street and plans would go out to public consultation.

Mr Rawlinson was too upset by the council’s stance to read his closing submissions at the final hearing on Tuesday and had to leave it to his agent Jack Shepherd.
