LOSS of spaces will lead to parking chaos in the residential areas around the town centre, councillors have warned.
There are concerns that building on car parks at Westgate, Piper's Cottage and County Way, coupled with planned apartments on the edge of the town centre, will exacerbate a growing problem in places such as Oakwell and Town End.
Concerns were raised at a meeting of the council's planning board on Tuesday, when plans for apartment blocks at the former Oakwell Filling Station on Pontefract Road and the Gaimsters site on the Town End roundabout were debated.
Both proposals have less parking spaces than the number of dwellings planned. Coun Malcolm Price said the problem was becoming worse.
