FRED James has fond memories of the first time the Remembrance Day Festival, organised by the Barnsley branch of the Royal British Legion, was held at the Civic Hall
It was attended by local dignitaries, including the Mayor and Mayoress, and officials of the Barnsley branch.
Dodworth Male Voice Choir was also in attendance as well as the Duke of Wellington Marching Band.
Mr James, who was secretary of the Barnsley group of the Royal British Legion and secretary of the organising committee for the festival, believes it took place in the late 1950s or early 1960s.
He is seated second from the left on the far left of the photograph.
First from the right on the same row is MP Roy Mason, now Lord Mason.
Harry Lodge, liaison officer and group president and a member of the choir is fifth from the right on the back row.
Frank Cooper, who was the president of the Barnsley Central branch of the Legion, is not featured on the photograph as he was outside the hall organising the falling of the poppy leaves.
The Lord Lieutenant of Yorkshire was also there.
