LIBRARY users have reacted positively to plans for a new £4.8m central library to be built in Barnsley town centre.
An artist's impression for the building was unveiled last week, and people have responded with enthusiasm.
Jackie Harrison, 64, retired, of Blackburn Lane, said: "Just looking at it, it looks lovely. It really is what Barnsley needs."
Amy Austin, of Shield Avenue, Worsbrough, said: "I did like the old library because I grew up with it, but I understand obviously the town's got to change for the better."
Steve Lake, a retired teacher, of Stocksbridge, said: "The old one was functional but a bit old-fashioned. Libraries are different entities to what they used to be. I think it's a good idea that you'd have a cafe in a library for example. Make it more of a social centre."
The library, part of the town centre's £50m redevelopment, is expected to be completed by early 2017.
