Penistone 18-year-old George Smith has signed a new deal with Barnsley until 2016.
The left-back, who has come through the Oakwell academy, signed his first professional deal last summer and has earned an extension after making six appearances for the first team in the last six weeks.
Speaking to the club's website, Smith said, "I'm over the moon to extend my stay here. I was obviously disappointed suffering the injury in pre-season but I feel that I've come back stronger and I'm determined to keep on improving."
