COUNCIL watchdogs will write to the government to say consultation on the shake up of post offices is just ‘going through the motions.’

Members of the regeneration scrutiny discussed proposals to close branches and concluded that the move would go ahead regardless of any opposition.

Coun Robert Barnard suggested including this view in the official response to the government and his colleagues unanimously agreed.

He said: “This is not a genuine consultation exercise it’s just going through the motions.”
